The SD-89 connects to a standard tip-ring loop start CO line by means of a RJ11C modular jack. The connection should be done by use of an FCC approved mounting cord.
Connection to telephone company-approved coin service (central office implemented systems) is prohibited. Connection to party lines service is subject to state tariffs.
Lift the handset and listen for dial tone. Use the dial pad to enter the dialing code assigned to the telephone number being called. The touch tones can be heard by the caller as they are being dialed.
When the connection is made the touch tone dial and transmitter are activated to allow access to auto attendant or another similar voice response system as well as voice.
The loudness of the receiver is controlled by the volume button (bottom button). Pressing this button will step the loudness in 5dB increments and then back to the normal level. The volume the user has chosen will remain until the handset is returned to the cradle.
To place another call press the flash button (top button) and listen for dial tone. After completing a call, return the handset to its cradle.
Remove the dust cap from the case cover located on the underside of the unit. Operate the program switch to PROGRAM. Initialize the program for 2 or 3 digit dial code by entering 170 followed by 2 for two digit code or 3 for three digit code and a #. You are now ready to start entering dial codes and telephone numbers.
All coding requires three digit input. A two digit code must be preceded by a zero (ie: 012 is 12). Enter the code followed by the telephone number and end with a #. The next telephone number is ready to be programmed. Continue until all telephone numbers have been input.
Operate the program switch to NORMAL and replace the plug. The dialer is ready for service.
A * entry causes the program to ignore the digits after the last #. If an error is made while programming, press the * and re-enter the number. To delete a number, enter the 3 digit dial code followed by a #. This causes the previously entered telephone number to be erased.
Note! If you clear the memory, all the stored numbers are erased, including the 2 or 3 digit code type. You must re-initialize the dialer as described above if you clear the memory.
Place the dialer in the PROGRAM mode. Enter 199#. Return the dialer to NORMAL mode. The contents in memory are erased.
If any of your telephone equipment is not operating properly, you should immediately remove it from your telephone line, as it may cause harm to the telephone network. If the telephone company notes a problem, they may temporarily discontinue service. When practical, they will notify you in advance of this disconnection. If advance notice is not feasible, you will be notified as soon as possible. When you are notified, you will be given the opportunity to correct the problem and informed of your right to file a
complaint with the FCC.
In the event repairs are ever needed on your SD-89, they should be performed by Starcom Incorporated, or an authorized representative of Starcom Incorporated.

The goal of the telephone company is to provide you with the best service it can. In order to do this, it may occasionally be necessary for them to make changes in their equipment, operations, or procedures. notice, in writing, to allow you to make any changes necessary to maintain uninterrupted service.
If you have any questions about your telephone line, such as how many pieces of equipment you can connect to it, the telephone company will provide this information upon request.
In certain circumstances, it may be necessary for the telephone company to request information from you concerning the equipment which you have connected to your telephone line. Upon request of the telephone company, provide the FCC registration number and the ringer equivalence number (REN) of the equipment which is connected to your line; both of these items are listed on the equipment label located on the exterior surface of the telephone housing near the program switch. The sum of all the REN's on your telephone lines should be less then five in order to assure proper service from the telephone company. In some cases' a sum of five may not be usable on a given line.
