There are 10 indicators on the front panel; ACTIVE, VOX, and INPUTS 1 8.
The input leds light when an input is shorted.
The VOX led indicates voice level when recording a message.
The ACTIVE led indicates the VAS8 is operating:
A short on any of the 8 alarm inputs is considered an alert. The VAS8 will store this alarm in its archive. It will dial the first telephone number. When the call is answered, it will output the voice message associated with the particular alarm input. It will dial any other stored telephone number and output the voice message. The VAS8 will disconnect after 8 rings if a number dialed is not answered. After dialing all the telephone numbers it will compare current alarm inputs with previously archived alarms. If there are additional alarms it will repeat the previous scenario.
The unit will not report the alarm again until the input opens and a new short appears.
Connect the VAS8 to a PBX station telephone line. Make a station to station call from a telephone to the line connected to the VAS8. The VAS8 will answer and output 3 short tones. Touch tone in the factory password, 12345#. You have 16 seconds to enter all digits. If a digit is incorrectly entered, the unit ignores further inputs and disconnects on the 16th second. After the password is correctly entered, the unit replies with 3 short tones. It is now ready to receive new entries. Enter the command digit followed by any selection variables and end with a #. Entering a * with a telephone number causes a 1 second delay. Several asterisks can be input for longer delays. Remember to end any input string with a #. The maximum number of digits each file can store is 20.
